Because the Spaniard will extend her break from tennis for a while. Muguruza announced this via Instagram.

"Spending time with family and friends is really healthy and wonderful, so I'll be extending this phase into the summer and missing out on the clay and grass season."

Muguruza had won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017 and shortly afterwards climbed to the top of the world rankings. In 2020 she was in the final of the Australian Open.

Recently, however, things did not go well for the 29-year-old, in 2022 she did not reach a second week in a Grand Slam tournament, and she was also eliminated in round 1 of the Australian Open in 2023. Muguruza is currently only 132nd in the world rankings.

Muguruza has not played since her opening game in Lyon - she will apparently only celebrate her return as part of the US hard court season.
