In the men's category, the two top seeded players of the tournament, Timo Stodder (LTTC "Rot-Weiß" Berlin) and Henri Squire (Rochusclub Düsseldorf eV), faced each other. From the beginning, the two fought a duel on equal terms. Nobody could get away, so the first set went into the tiebreak. Squire got him 7: 4. The second round was also tight, was characterized by dominant service games on both sides and had to be decided again in the tie-break. Squire, who had already played a few tiebreaks in this tournament, showed strong nerves. After the match point to 7: 3, the new German champion in 2021 was determined.

“It feels very good to be German champion - especially when you look at the trophy and see which players have already won this tournament. I think we both didn't play our best tennis today, but after such a mentally stressful week that's normal. I served well and managed to play aggressively in the tiebreaks, which was a decisive factor for my victory, ”said Henri Squire, delighted about his debut title at the German Championships.

Eva Lys wins in the women

Eva Lys (Der Club an der Alster eV) and Mara Guth (TC Bad Vilbel), both from the Porsche junior teams, faced each other in the women's final. Lys got off to a better start in the game. The favorite dominated the long baseline duels and repeatedly found solutions against Guth's varied game, so that she won the first set 6-2. Guth then braced himself against the defeat, but the 18-year-olds noticed the exhausting matches in the previous rounds. Lys continued to play her game consistently and used her first match point to make it 6: 2, 6: 4.

The joy of her success was great: “It is an unbelievable feeling to hold the trophy in your hands after such a long and exhausting week. My plan was to play my game and not look at the result. That worked very well. ”For Eva Lys it is also the first title at the German Championships.
