Of course, the planned measures of the federal government stand or fall with the development of the corona infection figures - but it looks great that tennis will also be able to return to largely normality from May 19.

"The number of infections is falling, Austria is a pioneer in testing - these are also ideal conditions for a quick restart in tennis," says ÖTV President Magnus Brunner. "In my intensive discussions with the opening commission of the federal government I clearly stated the expectations of tennis: green light for championships and competitions in all classes as well as opening of the tennis halls."

The German government complied with this emphatic demand on April 23.

On Friday it was announced that from May 19, 2021 ...

... outdoor tennis doubles can also be played by players from four households;

... the halls are opened - this is relevant because it also ...

... team championships and state championships can start operations;

... group training for all age groups is allowed again;

... any form of tournament is permitted.

While hobby players do not need to "test" to play tennis outdoors, a negative PCR, antigen or gargle test must be submitted for indoor play. One of these tests is also a prerequisite for consumption in the canteen. The gastro regulation applies here. A valid school test is sufficient for pupils to play in the hall and to enter the canteen.

The current regulations will continue to apply on the tennis facility from May 19.

The governors reserve the right to make exceptions for their federal state.

From April 26, the requirements in Vienna and Lower Austria will be adapted to those of the rest of the federal states, which means, among other things: The club for children and young people allows group training with a maximum of 10 children / young people plus up to two adult carers. The double game for under-18s from up to four households is also possible from April 26th.

“It's time to get Austria moving again,” says ÖTV President Magnus Brunner. “In Austrian tennis, 71,604 players and 9,988 teams are impatiently waiting for their championships to start. I look forward to normal tennis operations in our 1,650 clubs under clear and safe rules of the game. "
