Angelique Kerber won her first title since 2018 in Bad Homburg

Angelique Kerber flies with a lot of tailwind to the season highlight to Wimbledon. Kerber won the 13th title of her career in Bad Homburg with a 6: 3 and 6: 2 against Katerina Siniakova. However, the very clear result should not hide the fact that Siniakova fought back with all possible means until the end. And also had their chances.

Kerber, who was in fourth position, won the first set after a balanced initial phase, primarily due to her greater experience. Because while the left-hander limited herself to keeping the ball in play and only occasionally getting offensive, Siniakova fired cheerfully. And made one mistake after another, punctuated by a few extraordinarily beautiful points.

The same picture in the second act: Kerber put forward, Siniakova did have a few chances every now and then - but tournament ambassador Kerber did not let the lead be taken out of her hands. After 83 minutes of playing time, the three-time major winner celebrated her first title win since Wimbledon 2018.
