Siniakova won 6: 1, 2: 6 and 6: 2 - Clijsters remained without a win in the fifth match after their return to the match court.
Clijsters showed - as in previous games - again and again strong tennis at times, but could not go through the entire match in terms of consistency. "All in all, I experience moments when I feel really good on the pitch. But also moments when I feel that I'm too inconsistent," said Clijsters . That is part of the process, she knows. "I try to do better every time I play."
Clijsters has now won a set in four of their five comeback matches against some tough competition - only the first victory is missing.
Siniakova cleared a duel against Angelique Kerber by moving into the second round.
Emma Raducanu meets Sasnovich
Ajla Tomljanovic, Alison Riske, Amanda Anisimova, Viktorija Golubic and Anastasia Sevastova have also won their opening games.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich also made her first round match successful, making her the opponent of US Open winner Emma Raducanu in her first match since her sensational victory in New York.
