Julia Grabher had to bury her hopes of a home win in the W25 tournament in Pörtschach surprisingly early: The top seeded Austrian failed in her opening match in Carinthia against the Uzbek Victoria Kan. After losing the first set, Graber came back strongly with 6:1 in the second round, but then caught a completely unsuccessful decision set and had to bow out with 3:6, 6:1 and 0:6.

The former Austrian number one, Barbara Haas, also suffered a defeat on Wednesday. The Austrian, who was seeded number four, clearly failed because of Serbian Ivana Jorovic. Things went better for youngster Sinja Kraus: The 20-year-old defeated Julieta Lara Estable in three sets.

There is a special success story from Mira Antonitsch. The Carinthian won the first match after a month-long injury break. Opponent Charlotte Chavatipon had to give up after a 2:6 in set one. Also in the round of the last 16 is Melanie Klaffner. The Austrian defeated Martyna Kubka in straight sets.
