Julia Görges sees a need for action at WTA and ATP

Last December Julia Görges was still training regularly at the TennisBase in Oberhaching, at that time with Jens Gerlach as coach. In the meantime, visits to the current number 38 of the WTA world rankings have become rarer - there is no reason to rush back into everyday training, especially since Görges will not take part in the tournament series organized by the DTB. In contrast to other colleagues, the German number two is also rare on social networks, except for an Instagram live appearance at Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the WTA channel.

However, the 31-year-old knows how to classify the developments off the court, and some of the ideas that have been circulating in the past few weeks are definitely of interest to Görges, as she explained in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

Julia Görges about ...

... the difficulties in finding your way around the WTA tournament categories:

But what would be basically in the interests of the fans: a simpler design of the tournament categories and awarding points. It would be great to have a manual for the tennis season, which you can get from one place and with which you can watch tennis all year round and always understand the system.

... the idea that ATP and WTA should merge into a common umbrella organization:

In any case, I see that this debate is very positive. We already have various tournaments where women and men start together and play their tournaments in parallel. If you look at the tour as a whole, I would say that we have already done a great deal in women's sport to get to the position we have now achieved. Of course, men's sport in tennis is still more successful.

... about their hopes for a comeback of the tennis tours 2020:

Let me put it this way: we are a completely international sport in which players from all countries have to come together. Logically and normally viewed in terms of freedom of travel: I would be quite surprised if any tournament will take place this year. This is my personal opinion. That's why I'm relatively relaxed there. We'll get the gong sometime when it starts.
