If Kim Clijsters continues her comeback on the WTA tour, then the Belgian will not do so at the Australian Open 2021. Clijsters, who won one of her four Grand Slam titles in Melbourne in 2011, waived a wildcard that was offered to her by the organizer. Possibly also because the mother of three did not want to undergo the two-week quarantine.

Clijsters had surprisingly returned to the WTA tour in early 2020, first in Dubai, then in Monterrey. The 37-year-old made her comeback with a major at the US Open, where she lost to the strong Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in round one. After that, the Belgian veteran withdrew from the game.
