Laureus Award 2020: Nadal, Murray, Andreescu - these tennis players are nominated
The Laureus Award celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The Laureus World Sports Awards 2020 will take place on February 17th at the Verti Music Hall in Berlin. The annual award gives the awards for the world athletes of the year. Previous champions have included Roger Federer , Michael Schumacher, Tiger Woods, the German national soccer team and the Mercedes F1 team.

The Laureus award ceremony marks a milestone this year. It not only recognizes the greatest sporting successes of 2019, but also focuses on the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The foundation can look back on two successful decades and has united the lives of many people and promoted opportunities.
In addition to many active athletes, personalities from business, politics and entertainment are also expected.
Berlin is hosting the award for the second time. In 2016, the Laureus was already awarded at the Berlin fair.
The tennis player among the nominations
There are several tennis players among this year's nominations. Rafael Nadal , who won in this category in 2011, has been nominated for the Sportsman of the Year award this year. Naomi Osaka has been nominated for women in this category.
For the breakthrough of the year, the Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu was nominated, who surprisingly won the US Open in 2019 and is currently ranked fifth in the world.
For the comeback of 2019, Andy Murray is on the list, who already wanted to say goodbye to the tennis world due to his tragic bad luck with injuries. In Antwerp, the three-time Grand Slam winner succeeded in something he said he could not believe in for a long time. He won the ATP event in a competitive final against the Swiss Stan Wawrinka and thus sends a clear signal that giving up is not an option for him. Andy must have more than deserved the nomination for this admirable willpower.
