Laver Cup: "Are you booking the training ground?" - Nadal and Federer are serious

The promo start for the Laver Cup 2022 put a big grin on the faces of many tennis fans on Thursday. Because at the show event, it seems, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will be seen side by side on the pitch one (last) time.

The timing is right. That's what you know from Roger Federer. For a long time, the Swiss had made himself rare and had worked secretly on his return to the ATP tour. The Swiss also remained silent about the events surrounding the deportation of Novak Djokovic from Australia, but then congratulated his long-term companion and competitor Rafael Nadal on his 21st major title in a polite and authentic manner.

It was the start of the comparatively active days of the now 40-year-old on the mass media stage. First of all, the Swiss offered an update on his physical condition in conversation with sponsor Credit Suisse - and now Federer has also published a realistic timeline for a return. Because, it seems, the 20-time major triumphant will be back in the self-initiated Laver Cup in 2022 after a two-year absence.

Who books the training ground?

And why good timing? Well, the announcement, it couldn't have been better. Because Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer together adorn the main subject, with which the application of the show event, which will take place in London's O2 Arena this calendar year, celebrated its impressive start. The two superstars, together 41 "difficult" Grand Slam titles, are the first commitments for Team Europe in Great Britain. The comeback of "Fedal" is of particular media interest in view of the Spaniard's recent major triumph and Federer's long injury break. Just good timing.

In any case, Rafael Nadal was already looking forward to another, maybe last, hurray together with his long-term competitor. "Roger. Are you booking the training ground? Or should I do it?" Said the newly crowned Australian Open champion via social media. "I'm already looking forward to playing with you again, my friend!"

The Laver Cup will take place from September 23rd to 25th in 2022.
