The 24-year-old, currently ranked 342nd in the WTA ranking, announced the end of her career via Instagram.

"It was a trip that I didn't really enjoy in the end. But I am grateful for the memories and the support that the sport has given me over the years," she wrote. /

As a child, Mari Osaka was considered a greater talent than her sister, but she was denied a great career. 280th place in May 2018 was her best ranking, 196 wins were offset by 162 defeats, Mari Osaka was on the ITF tour for most of her career. She reached four finals here, the last in 2018 in Florence, where she was defeated by Bianca Andreescu in three sets.

Osaka played their last match in January at an ITF tournament in Rome, where qualifying round 1 ended.

Her biggest appearance was in Miami in 2018, where she was in the main draw via wildcard, but lost in round 1. In 2017 she also played with sister Naomi in the doubles competition in Tokyo - but the two lost right at the beginning.
