Maria Sakkari is Greece's sportswoman of the year

Belinda Bencic in Switzerland, Alexander Zverev in Germany and now also Maria Sakkari in Greece: The tennis players are really winning at the award ceremonies that are currently taking place. On Wednesday, Sakkari was named Greece's Sportswoman of the Year for the second year running.
The 26-year-old did not win a tournament on the WTA tour last season, but thanks to two semi-finals at the French and US Open, she made it to sixth in the world rankings. Not least because of this, Sakkari also took part in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara in 2021.
Her male counterpart Stefanos Tsitsipas, however, came away empty-handed. Basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo was able to win the title - like Sakkari - for the second time en suite. In 2019, Tsitsipas was named Greece's Sportsman of the Year.
