She had suggested talking to her and other players from Ukraine about the difficult situation in their home country.

"We wanted a meeting with the WTA board and didn't get it. No answer, nothing, just silence," said the 20-year-old during the Miami Open in the US state of Florida.

Kostyuk failed in Miami in the second round to Anastasia Potapova. The Russian appeared on the pitch at last week's tournament in Indian Wells in a Spartak Moscow shirt, which was widely seen as supporting the Russian war.

It was a disappointment for Kostyuk that the 21-year-old only received a formal warning from the WTA: "I don't agree with many things that the WTA does."

According to the number 38 in the world rankings, it is particularly difficult to stand on the pitch without thinking about home. "I avoid reading the news as much as possible because most of the news is terrible and bad," Kostyuk said.
