The French Open for tennis professionals has been postponed by a week due to the nationwide lockdown in France. This was reported by the French news agency AFP and L'Equipe, citing sources from the tournament organization. The Grand Slam competition was supposed to take place from May 23rd to June 6th and will now be held from May 30th to June 13th.

The move is intended to ensure that more fans can visit the facility on the Bois de Boulogne. The decision did not come as a surprise. The French government had already discussed a "delay of a few days" with the organizers. The four-week lockdown is scheduled to end in early May.

Last year, the French Open had been postponed by four months to September. At that time, only 1,000 viewers per day were allowed on the system in Paris.

The new restrictions due to the high incidence figures in France have been in effect since the beginning of April.
