Zverev kept up well with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first game of the day until 3: 3 in the first set - and then stopped playing. After 6: 3 and 6: 0, Tsonga now faces either Milos Raonic or the Australian qualifier Alexei Popyrin.

Kohlschreiber lost to young Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 6: 4, 5: 7 and 3: 6 after a good start. The two played for almost two hours on the center court of the TC Weißenhof before the 19-year-old from Belgrade secured the move to the second round with a zero game. There Kecmanovic plays against the winner of the match between Jan-Lennard Struff and Denis Shapovalov.
