Andreescu won against seventh-seeded Maria Sakkari 5-7, 6-3 and 6-4 and is now in the third round in Miami. At the beginning she had won against Emma Raducanu. "It's another step for my self-confidence," said the ex-top ten player, who has repeatedly struggled with injuries and made her comeback in Stuttgart about a year ago after a long break. She is currently ranked 31st.

Sorana Cirstea caused a surprise with a 6-2, 6-3 win over fifth-seeded Carolina Garcia - she had already won the duel between the two at the preliminary tournament in Indian Wells.

Also successful: Belinda Bencic against Leylah Fernandez (6:1, 6:1), Petra Kvitova against her young compatriot Linda Noskova (6:3, 6:0); Barbora Krejcikova, Karolina Pliskova and Madison Keys were also successful.

Sabalenka battered but successful

And in the night: Aryna Sabalenka. The second in the world rankings won 6: 4, 6: 3 against Shelby Rogers and scored 24 of the final 27 points after a false start in the second round.

Sabalenka struggled with a problem in his left leg and took a break from injury at the beginning of the second set, but then came through. "I feel okay for the moment," she said afterwards. "I'm trying to solve the problem and be ready for the next game."

Here Sabalenka meets Marie Bouzkova.
