This news is not particularly surprising: Naomi Osaka had already announced a break after her retirement from the French Open, now the Japanese woman followed her words with deeds. The world number two will not take part in the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin from June 14th to 20th.
Thus, the start of the lawn season for the 23-year-old will be postponed. However, it doesn't seem very likely right now that Osaka will be playing on grass at all this season. At the moment she is still on the Wimbledon Entry List.
Should the four-time Grand Slam winner decide to participate in the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, she could still compete in Bad Homburg or Eastbourne the week before by wildcard. Initially, however, Osaka will want to fully recover from the hustle and bustle of the French Open at home in Los Angeles.
