What will be played in Melbourne in early 2021?

A few days ago, the news made the rounds that professional tennis players would only be able to work in the Australian state of Victoria in early 2021. This is the best way to ensure that a possible spread of the COVID-19 virus is avoided. That plan may still be in place.

As the Tennis Channel now reports, however, it should not be possible for tennis professionals to enter Australia in December.

The original plan would have been for most of the athletes to travel to Australia in mid-December and go into a two-week quarantine there. The good news: Since the Australian Open is only scheduled towards the end of January, the players could probably arrive in good time before it starts.

But the question is: What happens to the tournaments scheduled in advance or the ATP Cup? The Australian Government's plan for these events is challenging. The traditional events in Auckland, New Zealand, were canceled a few weeks ago. In the current ATP calendar, the ATP Cup starts on January 1st, 2020, with a Premier 700 and an international event on the program for women. Location information currently: none.
