"At the end of the day we as players have to take responsibility ourselves," said the world number three after reaching the round of 16: "We have our own test kits and everyone has to take responsibility for themselves. I know that I wear them and do it. For I can't decide the other players."

The Frenchman Ugo Humbert recently announced that he had tested positive after losing in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament before he wanted to leave Melbourne. Zverev then said that he expected even more cases among tennis professionals.

The professionals had to do a PCR test after their arrival in Australia, followed by a quick test five to seven days later. All other tests are done on a voluntary basis, the organizers provide test kits for this.

However, Zverev did not want to criticize the regulation on Friday. "The government has decided that we live like all Australians," said the man from Hamburg: "I hope that all the players and coaches around them are honest too."
