Serena Williams has won four gold medals at the Olympic Games so far: 2000 (Sydney) and 2008 (Beijing) in doubles and 2012 (London) in singles and doubles. Would like more? Definitely would have. /

Whether Williams will compete in Tokyo is still in the stars. As things stand, there will be strict entry restrictions, which also affects the families of the participants. In Williams' case, her daughter might as well. During the WTA tournament in Rome, Williams was asked whether she, Serena, would travel to Tokyo if her daughter Olympia should not be allowed to come along.

"I haven't really thought about it yet. That's a really good question," mused the 23-time major winner. "I haven't spent 24 hours without her, that might be the answer. We're best friends."

But there are also other reasons, said the 39-year-old. The games should have taken place last year, but the question of the pandemic also arises ... then there are the Grand Slams (where Williams wants to win her 24th title). "It's just a lot."

Serena Williams starts clay court season in Rome

Williams' focus will currently be in Rome anyway: there she will start her clay court season after having only competed in Australia so far - and knocked out at the Australian Open in the semifinals against Naomi Osaka. Most recently, Williams had to cancel the Miami Open due to an operation in the mouth area.

Most recently it became known that Williams has signed a TV contract with Amazon .

In Rome, Williams will face Nadia Podoroska in the third match of the day (from 10 a.m.) on Wednesday. In the quarter-finals, there could then be a re-match against Osaka.
