"The interest is there. Let yourself be surprised," said the 31-year-old in an interview with the Sport Information Service (SID). Kerber and Zverev had already competed together at the Hopman Cup in January in Australia in the past two years.

This popular nations competition in the run-up to the Australian Open, in which a woman and a man represent their country together, has been removed from the tournament calendar this year in favor of the newly created ATP Cup. "I'm actually a little sad," said Kerber, who instead wants to start the season at the WTA tournament in Brisbane: "It's a shame that these appearances no longer exist in mixed."

For 2020, the Kiel woman, who slipped to 20th place in the world rankings and is building on a new team of coaches around ex-professional Dieter Kindlmann, has made a return to the top of the world. Kerber does not put any pressure on it. "First of all, my goal is to find my rhythm again," she said: "I want to give myself time to find my game, win matches and regain confidence on the pitch."
