It is no secret on the tennis tour that CoCo Vandeweghe did not necessarily have to go through the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship School. What the American achieved at an ITF tournament in the USA last night is questionable.
A video on Twitter shows Vandeweghe - formerly number 14 in the world - and her opponent Ekaterine Gorgodze (WTA No. 127) playing in - or something like that. Because Gorgodze actually wants to practice, Vandeweghe apparently does not. She doddles one ball after the other somewhere into the field, completely unmotivated, sometimes with the right, sometimes with the left, sometimes briefly, sometimes directly into the net. And as hard as Gorgodze tries to play clean balls, Vandeweghe continues to boycott a fair warm-up.
Vandeweghe apparently physically battered
What happened? Apparently Vandeweghe had physical problems, including the heat at the tournament in Landisville, Pennsylvania. She had won the first set, at 3: 5 in the second round she practically gave up the set, and kept holding her leg. According to a report by the Australian website nine.com.au , she took a medical time-out after the sentence, the match was then interrupted due to heat.
When resuming, Vandeweghe apparently delayed the way to the court, officials then had to ask them to come to the court. This was followed by the absurd opening scene, which Gorgodze put to an end after a minute and complained. After some discussion, they went on to serve.
Match is interrupted in sentence 3
After resuming the game, Vandeweghe tried a little more, but still did not seem to be in full power. When the score was 0: 2, a heavy rain shower saved them, the match was interrupted. Continued: Today at 10.30 a.m. local time.
Has Vandeweghe then recovered a little? You can even follow the live stream here from 16.30 CEST.
