Great news for tennis: Instead of only offering a team event for male athletes at the start of the season, ATP and WTA will be doing things together in January starting next season.

Big change in the ATP and WTA calendar at the start of the season: From the coming year there will no longer be an ATP Cup on offer, instead women and men will do something together in a mixed event. The New York Times reports on Tuesday evening. Accordingly, it should continue to be an international match, just with male and female representatives.
Under the name "United Cup", the event is to be held at various locations throughout Australia, not without parallels to the "Hopman Cup" which was held until 2019. The team fight should offer the entire world elite good preparation for the Australian Open, the first big highlight of the season. The prize money is also reported to be on the higher end of the spectrum.
There has been no official confirmation so far, nor has there been more detailed information on the team event mode. However, 16 nations are reportedly set to compete for the trophy in the group and knockout stages, with a men's and women's singles each, plus a potentially decisive mixed doubles. For the individual matches, points for the ATP or WTA world rankings should be up for grabs.
