It's getting down to business in Austrian padel sport. On August 14th and 15th, the Austrian Padel Association (ÖPV) organized the national championships in La Ville in Vienna. From 02.09. The Austrian Padel Union in St. Pölten will now choose the Austrian champion until September 4th. However, not all players are admitted to these competitions. tennisnet reported about it .

This fact is also confirmed by the Austrian Padel Union. However, the APU has objected to the basic tenor of the article. Christian Ludwig, himself an active padel player and Vice President at the APU, points out in an email to tennisnet that the number of tournaments organized by the APU is many times higher than that of public transport. The APU is the larger association and the real driving force when it comes to the growth of padel sports in Austria. This is also reflected in the number of clubs and players organized in the two associations.

Padel sport needs support

Also the two best players in Austria. Christoph Krenn and David Alten, who took part in a World Padel Tour tournament for the first time this year at the Vienna Padel Open, play at the APU. Not only that: Alten and Krenn are also listed on the APU homepage as part of the extended team as consultants (Alten) and responsible for plant construction (Krenn).

An improvement in the infrastructure also and above all requires funding. For which, in turn, the recognition of Padel as a sport by the Federal Sports Organization (BSO) is a prerequisite. The APU basically meets all the requirements for this, only one is still in public transport, Ludwig continues. However, another meeting between the BSO, the APU and the public transport did not take place due to the cancellation of the latter.
