"Of course I would like to play another Grand Slam, but if it is like this (without a spectator; I would prefer to cancel it," said the 30-year-old Czech in an interview with the French news agency AFP.

Without playing fans "who are our engine", she doesn't think it's a good idea that a Grand Slam "doesn't deserve that". On the other hand, according to Kvitova, there is at least one good thing about a tennis match in front of empty ranks: "I don't have to wear makeup."

However, Petra Kvitova has been one of the major earners on the WTA tour for years. For players who are ranked lower in the WTA world rankings than the Czech, the income from participating in a major is essential.

Until the global WTA tour continues on July 20 at the earliest, international tennis will be suspended due to the corona pandemic. This year's French Open was postponed to September, the glorious Wimbledon tournament was canceled. A decision on the part of the US tennis association USTA should be made in the coming days about the location and the date of the US Open.
