Claus Lippert has never seen this in his long years as a organizer of tennis tournaments in Austria: the legendary organizer counted 188 participants last weekend at the kick-off of the Peugeot Race to Generali Open at UTC La Ville in Vienna - and chose in seven different categories as many winners. "Actually, we had only planned ten to a maximum of 16 starters per ITN," Lippert told tennisnet.com.

The enormous interest in the winning car, the Peugeot 2008 SUV GT Line, did not only stir the Austrian tennis scene: "We had a total of 20 nations at the start." They worked together under corona-compliant conditions.

256 players at the final tournament

The Peugeot Race to Generali Open takes place for the fourth time this year, the qualification tournaments have made the mass of interested parties necessary. "In 2019, more than 500 players came to Kitzbühel, who then determined the winner within three days." What is new this year is that there will also be a double competition. Overall, two rasters with 128 seats each will be opened at the finals for the individual cracks - the competition for the winning car is therefore enormous.

Over the past few years, the winning car has been played at the Generali Open - that is the plan for 2020. Should the ATP Tour 250 tournament take place in late August or early September, the winner will be determined there again in the proven tie-break shootout mode (the sets are played out in the qualifying tournaments). If the Generali Open fails, an alternative date will be sought.

By the way, you can and should still register - here . This is exactly where you will find the dates for the next qualification events.
