Anett Kontaveit and Ons Jabeur will go to the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, that much is already certain. The only question is: who is coming as a substitute woman? And who will give her premiere as a fixed starter? Neither Tunisia nor Estonia have had a starter in the final tournament of the WTA so far, so history will definitely be written. Jabeur would even be the first woman with an Arab background to make it into the top eight players of a tennis season.

In any case, Jabeur is still one step ahead in the Porsche Race. Kontaveit has to catch up 140 points on their competitor in Cluj. After the exhausting performance in Moscow including the final marathon with Monster-Coemback after 4: 6, 0: 4 behind Ekaterina Alexandrova, Kontaveit will probably not travel to Romania particularly fresh. Jabeur actually wanted to play in Courmayeur but had to retire due to pain in his elbow.

Krejcikova only major winner

After the expected cancellation by Ashleigh Barty, the following seven women have already been selected as participants in Guadalajara: Aryna Sabalenka, the current number two in the world. Then Barbora Krejcikova, the only Grand Slam winner of the year who will be at the finals (Naomi Osaka, Champion in Melbourne, and US Open winner Emma Raducanu will also be absent alongside Wimbledon triumphant Barty). With Karolina Pliskova, Krejcikova receives support from her home country of the Czech Republic.

There are also two Spanish women, Garbine Muguruza and Paula Badosa, and two other debutants: Iga Swiatek and Maria Sakkari. Swiatek would have qualified last year - but no replacement location for Shenzhen was found.
