The last Hopman Cup champions for all time? Roger Federer, Belinda Bencic

Not that Roger Federer would value this entry in the tennis annals, but it looks like the Swiss will have been the last Hopman Cup winner. On the side of Belinda Bencic, of course, with whom Federer had won in the final against Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev in 2018 and 2019.

With the introduction of the new ATP Cup in the Hopman Cup week, but above all the order from Perth, where the unofficial Mixed World Cup was traditionally held, to one of the three cities next to Sydney and Brisbane, in which a total of 24 nations Men's teams should play for up to 750 ATP points in early 2020, the Hopman Cup is history. Unfortunately for many involved, especially Roger Federer.

Federer enjoyed the time in Perth

“I have enjoyed it there for the past three years. And I also played with Mirka and Martina in Perth. When I look back, I always had a wonderful time, ”Federer is quoted in the Swiss daily gazette. It is a little sad that the Hopman Cup has to give way. Alexander Zverev, who still promised the audience in Perth at the beginning of 2019, will think similarly.

However, it is still unclear whether Federer will compete in the ATP Cup. The Davis Cup final tournament in Madrid was never one for the 37-year-old anyway, due to Switzerland's defeat in round one at home to Russia, the Confederates are only spectators at the final anyway. A team with Stan Wawrinka at the ATP Cup would not only have charm, but also great sporting prospects. Federer's greatest concern is known to be the Laver Cup, which will be held in Geneva this September. Most of all, he wanted to recruit his buddy Stan.
