Will Roger Federer win his second title in Miami in 2019?

Next week the ATP tour will take a break, well deserved of course. 20 tournaments will have been played by then with at least 19 different winners. Neither Novak Djokovic (the only title at the Australian Open), Rafael Nadal or Alexander Zverev (both still untitled in 2019) were able to enter the winners lists several times. The only remaining candidate for the double strike remains, as in Indian Wells, Roger Federer.

The Swiss won his 100th career title in Dubai a few weeks ago and was only one victory away from number 101 in Indian Wells. Federer was defeated by Dominic Thiem, after winning the first set and with good chances in rounds two and three. In Miami, 20-time major winner Kevin Anderson pulled out of the draw for a second success in 2019, the South African had won in Pune earlier this year.

Federer against Isner with a positive record

With regard to the remaining competition, the Swiss must probably be given the role of favorite before the short break before the clay court season: Federer has never played against the Canadian teenagers Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime, which routine (and physical freshness) could the decisive factor for the 37-year-old. Roger Federer has not played against Isner since 2015, but at that time the American won in the tiebreak in Paris-Bercy in the third set. In the overall record with Isner, Roger Federer leads with 5: 2 wins.
