The first success story from Dominic Thiem after his comeback is still a long time coming. The match against Hugo Dellien on the Simonne-Mathieu court was tighter than the final score of 3: 6, 2: 6 and 4: 6 from Thiem's point of view would suggest. The two-time finalist at the French Open never had a chance of winning. Thiem is at the ATP Tour level with ten consecutive defeats.

Dellien and Thiem have been playing professional tennis for a long time, but the only meeting so far was at a youth tournament in Italy. At that time, the Austrian won in three sets, which was not suitable as a reference for the repeat in Roland Garros. Because although Hugo Dellien has not yet delivered any outstanding results this season, he is in a better match rhythm than Dominic Thiem. As in the last few matches, he was able to set some highlights with the backhand. But helped his opponent too often with simple mistakes, especially on the return with the forehand.

In the first set, Dellien, currently number 87 in the world, made a break to make it 3-1, in the second round he took away Thiem's service twice, and in the third act the break came straight to 1-0. The audience didn't want to put up with it and cheered on the comebacker like a local hero. Alone: Hugo Dellien was not impressed by it.

This makes Sebastian Ofner the last remaining Austrian in the tableau. Later on Sunday, however, Ofner has a task ahead of him that has washed up: The Styrian has to play against Alexander Zverev .

Dominic Thiem will probably continue in Perugia after the end in Roland Garros. The 28-year-old from Lower Austria called for a challenger there.
