Jan-Lennard Struff entered the main draw in Madrid as a lucky loser. The advance of the German to the final was anything but happy, but rather thanks to his powerful and aggressive style of play. On the way to the final, Struff celebrated no fewer than five three-set successes, including in the quarterfinals against Greek world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas.

In the final, too, Struff gave the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz an open exchange of blows, in which the local hero had to go over three sets in order to have the better end for himself. With the final in Madrid, the 33-year-old Struff has catapulted himself to 28th place in the world rankings - he has never been so far ahead in the ATP ranking in his career so far. In his current top form, it is quite possible that Struff will even come to the BOSS OPEN, which is endowed with 795,730 euros, as the German number one.

Struff has good memories of Stuttgart, having reached the semi-finals at Weissenhof in 2019. "I'm looking forward to the tournament in Stuttgart, switching to grass a few years ago was great for the event. I feel very comfortable at the Weissenhof and look forward to serving in front of a German audience," emphasizes Struff, whose upward trend has already become apparent with the quarter-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo.

"Jan-Lennard Struff showed outstanding performances both in Monte Carlo and in Madrid. The tournament in Stuttgart has been an integral part of his tournament calendar in recent years. We are delighted that he will be coming to Stuttgart again this year. He's in great form at the moment, so I'm sure he'll be a force to be reckoned with at the Weissenhof," says tournament director Edwin Weindorfer.

In addition to Struff, the Italian defending champion Matteo Berrettini, the Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, the Australian Nick Kyrgios and the Canadian Denis Shapovalov have already registered for this year's edition.
