Successful restart: Andreas Mies convinces with John Peers

Double specialist Andreas Mies dares a new start in Australia after separating from Kevin Krawietz. Not an easy task after such a success story as with Krawietz. But with his quarter-finals, Mies has already managed to restart.

Andreas Mies walked through Melbourne Park with a big smile on his face. "I'm more than happy with how things have started now," said the 32-year-old from Cologne, who is starting a new stage in his career in Australia: "It couldn't have gone better for the start. Hopefully it will continue, we want more ."

We are no longer Kevin Krawietz and Mies, the "KraMies" as they were actually called. Together they achieved sporting fame with two titles at the French Open. After the separation of the successful duo at the end of last season, Krawietz is now waiting at home for the birth of his first child. And Mies throws himself into the competition in Melbourne full of vigor with his new partner, the Australian John Peers.

Andreas Mies: "The complete opposite of Kevin"

And successfully - after a 6:0, 6:3 against Alex Bolt/Luke Saville (Australia), the quarter-finals at the Australian Open were made straight away. In terms of sport, it's a smooth transition for Mies, who with Peers now meets Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos (Spain/Argentina) in eighth place.

But he also openly admitted that touring life is different for him now. "It's a big change and two different worlds. I could hardly have chosen a greater contrast," said Mies: "John is the complete opposite of Kevin. He's energized all the time, on fire, super-professional."

He always had to push the quiet Krawietz, who will play with Frankfurt's Tim Pütz in the future, and carry him away with his energy. Now he suddenly gives the more relaxed part, reported Mies. Peers is a "very nice guy", they have to "find each other a bit more", and then you can see where the journey is going: "But I have a really good feeling so far."
