Tennis President von Arnim on easing: the "direction is right"

For President Dietloff von Arnim of the German Tennis Association (DTB), the easing steps for the sport are going in the "right direction". This is what Ulrich Klaus's successor, who was elected at the end of January, said to the Sport Information Service (SID) on Thursday about the decisions made by politics in the corona pandemic.

But he had hoped that the relief for his sport would be a little bigger.

In tennis as an individual sport, there was no proven transmission, said von Arnim, who suggested a differentiated view of the sport: "A tennis court has 600 square meters. There you can play singles without risk or, under the proposed conditions, doubles with two households."

This realization is increasingly gaining acceptance in politics, said the DTB President: "I would have liked that we could perhaps get a little further, especially with regard to the fact that in individual federal states tennis can already be played indoors and it is because there were no problems. Nowhere did you have to take back decisions. "

Von Arnim emphasized that opening steps are particularly important for children and adolescents. These are around a quarter of the 1.4 million members of the DTB. Taking into account the hygiene concepts, they could go back to their sport: "I can only appeal: Let the tennis players play, especially let the boys and girls on the courts."
