One could almost think that the WTA organized its two tournaments after the French Open for Aryna Sabalenka alone: The 22-year-old Belarusian won the only two trophies in both Ostrava and Linz that were awarded in late autumn. Not always sovereign, but with great fighting spirit - like in Ostrava, where the match against Cori Gauff in the third set seemed to be lost with a score of 2: 5. Sabalenka prevailed, defeating compatriot Victoria Azarenka in the final. In Linz it was Elise Mertens who had to bow to Power Sabalenkas.

The third championship of the year was also the biggest: Before the Corona break, Aryna Sabalenka won the event in Doha. In the final she defeated P etra Kvitova , on the way there alongside others Maria Sakkari, Anett Kontaveit and Svetlana Kuznetsova. A week earlier, Simona Halep's quarter-finals were over in Dubai.

Sabalenka's greatest weapon? The serve!

The three Grand Slam tournaments of the year did not go quite as well. At the Australian Open, the end came in round one against Carla Suarez-Navarro, in New York City Sabalenka had no chance against Azarenka in round two. The bankruptcy against Ons Jabeur in Roland Garros was especially annoying, especially since Sabalenka seemed to have this match under control for a long time.

And so Aryna Sabalenka winters as the ten best player in the world. Not a bad proof of work. Sabalenka is still considered one of the best performers on the WTA tour. There were 165 aces in 39 matches, of which Sabalenka won 29. Even as a setback, things didn't go bad: Sabalenka, who is trained by the German Dieter Kindlmann, was able to use 46.0 percent of her break chances. And as a setback she won 38.9 percent of the games.
