Dominic Thiem on Friday in Kitzbühel

Before the Friday meeting in Kitzbühel, Thiem and Bautista Agut had had mutual pleasure four times, three of which took place in 2015 at relatively short intervals. And all went to the Spaniard, while Thiem was able to prevail against "RBA" for the first time in St. Petersburg in 2018 on the way to winning the tournament there.

As in the past few days, athletic celebrities had announced themselves for the grandstands for the semi-final matches: Anna Veith and Nicole Schmidhofer had accepted the invitation to Kitzbühel, as had biathlon legend Dominik Landertinger yesterday or Fritz Strobl, the downhill Olympic champion of 2002, on Wednesday evening .

Thiem against Rublev or Berrettini

The match started according to the taste of Thiem and the 500 admitted spectators in the Kitzbühel tennis stadium: The local hero took the serve twice from his opponent and led quickly with 4: 1. Bautista Agut kept calm, equalized to 4: 4. Then it went up to the tie-break, in which Thiem missed a backhand volley-sitter at 5: 5. Bautista Agut said thank you, served, Thiem smashed a racket, was warned by Damien Dumusois.

The well-tempered outburst of anger brought Thiem back on track, the second round went 6-2 to Austria's number one. Also in the decision Thiem struck first: With a grandiose inside-out winner with the forehand he got the break to 3: 1. The first match ball was 5-2, Thiem struck straight away.

The final opponent Thiems will be determined in the second semi-final between Matteo Berrettini and Andrey Rublev.

Here is the match to read in the live ticker.
