There will be no spectators in Rome this year

Bad news for the organizers of the tennis tournament in Rome: The event in the Italian capital will take place behind closed doors this year.

The Italian Tennis Federation had initially planned to play the tournament with a limited number of spectators. The concept was to allow no more than 17,000 fans to flock to the facility per day. However, this proposal has now been rejected by the Italian authorities - the combined event has to do without spectators this year.

What's happening in Paris?

According to several media reports, one reason for the "no" from the Italian authorities in terms of viewers is the insufficient safety margin in the planned concept. This should have been only 43 centimeters between certain seats - too little to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

It is still unclear how the French tennis association will regulate the audience question at the French Open. Originally, up to 20,000 fans per day should be allowed to visit the facility, but in view of the increasing number of infections in Paris, this project has already been put a stop to . A final decision should be made in the coming days.
