They had come to testify to tennis, yes: sports history. And somewhere it was a historic achievement by Daniil Medvedev, who rudely ended Novak Djokovic's attempt in the US Open final to become the first man after Rod Laver to win the calendar Grand Slam. The Serb was not granted that. The cast in the stands would have given the final an almost royal note.

First of all, there are Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt, two of the biggest stars in the international film industry. Which of course also applies to Ben Stiller. And also Alec Baldwin, who enjoys home advantage as a New Yorker. Leonardo the Caprio wanted to remain unrecognized - and in addition to a cap pulled low over his face, he had also put on a mask.

Speaking of which, number one on the side of the page at Madison Square Garden is director Spike Lee at the New York Knicks games. Who also saw the final live - and was seen in the Arthur Ashe Stadium the days before. Incidentally, the basketball players themselves were not badly represented with Joakim Noah and Derrick Rode.

Megan Rapinoe stood out from the ranks of female sports stars, as did Maria Sharapova - who won the title in New York in 2006.

And another Oscar winner honored Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev: Rami Malek, who received the most important award in the film industry for playing Freddy Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
