Short-time work for Carlos Alcaraz in the last match of the night session on Tuesday in New York City: Because opponent Dominik Koepfer twisted his ankle in the first game, then continued to fight - but had to give up for Alcaraz when the score was 6: 2 and 3: 2. Next opponent of the defending champion from Spain will be Lloyd Harris.

Jannik Sinner had surprisingly few problems with Yannick Hanfmann. The South Tyrolean won 6: 3, 6: 1 and 6: 1 and now has to play against his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego. Alexander Zverev could wait for Sinner in the round of 16.

Monfils, Murray, Wawrinka win

Hubert Hurkacz had to put in a real show of strength: opponent Marc-Andrea Huesler served in the third set for the match, but in the end Hurkacz won 4: 6, 5: 7, 7: 6 (0), 6: 3 and 6:1 through. Hurkacz plays Great Britain's Jack Draper on Thursday.

With Andy Murray, Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka, three veterans also gave strong signs of life. Murray defeated Corentin Moutet in three sets, as did Wawrinka over the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka. Monfils prevailed against Taro Daniel in four rounds and now meets Andrey Rublev. Murray faces a duel with Grigor Dimitrov.
