A good deal of tennis celebrities had made themselves comfortable in the suites in Arthur Ashe Stadium to experience Andy Murray's first-round appearance at the US Open 2020 live and in color: Alexander Zverev was there as well as Marin Cilic or Kyle Edmund, including Dominic Thiem stopped by for a few minutes after his win against Jaume Munar.

And Murray once again delivered what can be expected of him: a great fight. In his first individual match at the Grand Slam level after his hip operation, the Scot, winner of the US Open 2012, was already back with 0-2 sets and a break against Yoshihito Nashioka, but then allowed himself and his observers a lap of honor . And another one.

Murray catches up with Break in the fifth set

In the fourth set, Murray initially had the entry into the tie-break on the racket, but forgave twice from a promising position on the net. Nishioka, in turn, could not use a match point after 3:41 hours of play. So once again a quick decision. Murray started with a 2-0, soon it was 4-1. And it wouldn't be Andy Murray if there hadn't been a fifth sentence as well. In which he broke the break to 2: 3 himself with a double fault. What followed was Murray's immediate rebreak. Who won after 4:38 hours of play with 4: 6, 4: 6, 7: 6 (5), 7: 6 (4) and 6: 4.

Murray's next opponent will be the winner of the game between Félix Auger-Aliassime and Thiago Monteiro.

Khachanov defeats Sinner in Thriller

The Italian newcomer Jannik Sinner and Karen Khachanov had to go the full distance. Sinner won the first two sentences, but had to call the physio to court 8 at the beginning of the third round. The back on the bottom right caused problems for the South Tyrolean, who gave sets three and four almost without a fight.

Before the decision sentence, Sinner allowed himself a longer toilet break - not an easy situation for the more experienced Khachanov. Because Sinner got to the point as quickly as possible in every rally. And in fact, last year's winner of the # NextGen Masters in Milan made it into a tiebreak. But Karen Khachanov got it, who won with 3: 6, 6: 7 (7), 6: 2, 6: 0 and 7: 6 (4). Khachanov plays in round two against his compatriot Andrey Kuznetsov, who surprisingly prevailed against Sam Querrey.
