The US tennis fans shouldn't celebrate another title in pairs at the US Open 2022: after Rajeev Ram repeated last year's triumph alongside Joe Salisbury on Saturday , the two local heroes Caty McNally and Taylor Townsend lost in the women's doubles competition Czechs Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the final with 6:3, 5:7 and 1:6.
Everything went according to plan for McNally/Townsend, after winning the first set they were already leading 4:1 in the second round. After that, Krejcikova/Siniakova turned up the heat and still won their sixth major trophy together, which also meant the Career Grand Slam.
From Monday, Siniakova will also be number one in the doubles world rankings again. McNally/Townsend, on the other hand, missed their first Grand Slam title among professionals after the narrow defeat.
