Carlos Alcaraz has reached the goal of his dreams and secured the first Grand Slam title of his career on Sunday (local time): The Spaniard beat Casper Ruud 6: 4, 2: 6, 7: 6 (1 ) and 6:3 and thus also crowned the new number one in the world.

From Ruud's point of view, the start was anything but ideal, Alcaraz managed to break early in the first round to make it 2-1. The Spaniard had to survive some tricky situations on his own serve, but ultimately knew how to bring the lead to the finish line. After 49 minutes of play, the opening set went 6-4 to the 19-year-old.

The second period was initially similarly balanced, but in the sixth game Ruud then struck and took the serve from Alcaraz to make it 4-2. The Iberian, who had gone the full distance in each of his three previous matches, then noticed the strains of the tournament so far and had to accept another break a little later to equalize the set.

At the beginning of the third set, Alcaraz quickly took a 2-0 lead, but Ruud immediately hit back to make it 2-2. The Norwegian also had a slight advantage in the game afterwards and found two set balls when the score was 6:5. However, Alcaraz fends this off with strong attacking tennis.

Ruud opened the subsequent tie-break with an ace, it should remain the Scandinavian's only point win in the short decision. Alcaraz, who had previously lost each of his four tie-breaks played at the US Open, stepped up a gear again in this phase and consequently secured the third set 7: 6 (1).

Alcaraz knew how to transport the momentum into the fourth set and took the serve from Ruud to make it 4:2. The teenager didn't let this lead be taken away: after three hours and 20 minutes of play, Alcaraz converted his second match point to a 6: 4, 2: 6, 7: 6 (1) and 6: 3 success.

Alcaraz not only won his first Grand Slam title in New York, but was also crowned the youngest world number one in the history of tennis. Final opponent Ruud will be in second place behind the 19-year-old in the ranking from Monday.
