The big stars of the tour are used to being almost crushed by their fans. On Friday it hit a little boy - almost literally. /

When Rafael Nadal had a look at the Flushing Meadows facility on his day off, and signed autographs in the kids zone, things suddenly got hectic. So hectic that a little boy standing at the front of the barrier was almost crushed by the Nadal fans behind him!

Nadal, however, reacted presently, pulled the little crying tennis fan out of the crowd, comforted him for a long time and of course also gave him the desired autograph.

"That was my son you saved here!"

"Do you wonder why Rafa, Roger and Novak are such great champs? It's because of moments like this," said Nick McCarvel, who commented on the scene on the US Open Channel.

And Nadal? Of course also gave her autograph to the other waiting fans.

The little boy's father also spoke on Twitter: "That was my son, whom you saved here. You are already his idol. Now you are his hero too! Thank you and good luck at the US Open ! "

Nadal against Chung on Saturday

Nadal will play his third round game against Korean Hyeon Chung on Saturday (second match after 5 p.m. CEST).

The second place in the world rankings won his first round on Tuesday in three sets against John Millman. After that he was able to save some energy - because opponent Thanasi Kokkinakis had to retire injured shortly before the match began.

So far, Nadal has won three times at the US Open - 2010, 2013 and 2017. In the current edition, he is the second biggest favorite for the tournament victory after Novak Djokovic.

Nadal leads 2: 0 against Chung - the two of them met last at the Paris Masters in 2017.
