The US Open, it is the sixth individual tournament that Jan-Lennard Struff will contest in the 2020 calendar year. The US Open is also the third event in which the Warsteiner meets Novak Djokovic during the tournament - a rarity in the tennis circus. A rarity that Germany's number two would like to do without, as the German had to give up the two previous meetings with the Serbian, who was still undefeated in 2020.

"I go out with the belief that I can do it," Struff had nevertheless announced before the third meeting in 2020 with Djokovic, and the German started this third round duel accordingly. The 30-year-old already had a breakball in the first game of the match, but could not use it. Instead, it was Djokovic who took the serve from his opponent for the first time, the Serbian set it to 5: 3 - and secured set one a little later with 6: 3.

Dream start for Djokovic in set two

Round two started for Jan-Lennard Struff with the worst-case scenario, Novak Djokovic had four breakballs in the first game of the set, used the last of these and took the lead again with a break. The Warsteiner subsequently played well, at least when it came to his own serve, but could not pose a threat to the industry leader with its service. With the score of 5: 3 it was a renewed break by the Serbs, which fixed the identical final score in round two.

Jan-Lennard Struff could have made a good start in the third round like Djokovic in the previous sentence, the Warsteiner had two breakballs in the first game, but missed both chances. And so it was again the Serb who made the first break of the set, Djokovic Jan-Lennard Struff took the serve to 3: 1 to zero. Djokovic had already played himself into a real frenzy at this point, everything seemed to work out for the apparently unbeatable Serb.

Djokovic now against Carreno Busta

The world number one managed another break straight away and after just one hour and 40 minutes served the set and thus the match win. Jan-Lennard Struff had nothing more to oppose, the Warsteiner simply had no chance in this game despite some decent performance. With 6: 3, 6: 3 and 6: 1 Novak Djokovic moves into the round of the best 16.

So Jan-Lennard Struff had to give up his third duel of the year with Novak Djokovic, too sure, to consider this presented himself in this third round game. The Serb now meets Pablo Carreno Busta in the round of 16, who didn't give Ricardas Berankis the slightest chance in the early evening.
