As far as the Grand Slam merits are concerned, Dominic Thiem has a small lead over his opponent in today's semifinals of the US Open 2020: While Daniil Medvedev has only been in a major semifinal, the Austrian can fall back on five empirical values of this kind : Four times in Roland Garros and at the beginning of the year at the Australian Open, after all, Thiem has made it into the final three times. A triumph in one of the four largest tennis tournaments is still pending for both of them.
Thiem and Medvedev have so far played three matches against each other, Thiem sees the balance 2: 1 ahead. Last year, the two met in the final in Barcelona (victory for Thiem) and in the quarter-finals in Montreal (victory for Medvedev).
