Marterer delivered a concentrated performance against Zizou Bergs from France, winning 6: 4 and 6: 4. The opponent in the qualifying final will again be a Frenchman: Maxime Janvier, who was also able to assert himself against senior Paolo Lorenzi in two sets.
Remarkable the performance of Mats Moraing, who was successful against Christopher O'Connell with 7: 6 (3) and 6: 1. O'Connell has already defeated Jannik Sinner this season. Moraing now has to play against the 18-year-old Dane Holger Rune, who, like the German, is fighting for his first participation in a Grand Slam tournament main field.
Oscar Otte and Peter Gojowczyk entered the third qualifying round earlier on Thursday. As at the start against Renzo Olivo, Otte fended off a match point against Constant Lestienne and won in the tie-break of the third set. Gojowczyk defeated Robin Haase from the Netherlands in two rounds.
