Mektic and Pavic, most recently winners at Wimbledon and at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, were sensationally defeated by the two Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow. The two were won with a wild card in the main draw of the last major of the year. After Mektic and Pavic were unable to compete in Paris due to two positive tests and lost to Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, “only” one major in 2021 was left hanging in the end.
