Novak Djokovic is still not vaccinated against Corona and will not be vaccinated either. The Serbian tennis top star made this clear before the start of the grass classic in Wimbledon. This means that the 35-year-old will not be able to travel to the US for the US Open in May and would miss a Grand Slam tournament for the second time this year after the Australian Open.

"I would love to travel to the States, but as of today it's not possible and there's not much I can do," said Djokovic: "It's up to the US government to make a decision on whether they let unvaccinated people into their country." Currently, only vaccinated people are allowed to enter the country.

Additional motivation for Wimbledon

In Wimbledon, Djokovic is also allowed to compete unvaccinated, as was the case recently at the French Open (out in the quarter-finals against Rafael Nadal). In January, the 20-time Grand Slam winner flew to the Australian Open in Melbourne, but was then expelled from the country after a lot of hiccups.

The prospect of not being able to compete at the US Open is an "additional motivation for Djokovic to play well at Wimbledon," he said. The six-time tournament winner can claim the All England Club title for the fourth time in a row. Only Björn Borg, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer have managed to do this so far.
