US Open qualification: Gojowczyk, Otte and Co. want to be in the main field

From a German point of view, eight men and five women are starting to qualify for the US Open 2021. Daniel Masur, in particular, was unlucky at the draw.

Masur has to open against the French Benjamin Bonzi, who is in first place. Peter Gojowczyk (number 20 in qualification) meets the Czech veteran Lukas Rosol, Oscar Otte (23) meets Renzo Olivo from Argentina. Maximilian Marterer has good chances against Olivo's compatriot Andrea Collarini. Mats Moraing will also play against a South American in round one: Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves.

Yannick Maden, on the other hand, got Go Soeda from Japan, Cedric-Marcel Stebe first has to deal with Cem Ilkel from Turkey. And Ilya Marchenko, a veteran, is waiting for Tobias Kamke.

For women, Mona Barthel starts against Mai Hontama from Japan, Katharina Gerlach starts against Federica di Sassa from Italy. Tatjana Maria will play against Susan Bandecchi from the USA in round one of the qualification, while Anna-Lena Friedsam, seeded number 16, has to play against Allie Kiick from the USA. Jule Niemeier (30) is the favorite in the match against Giulia Gatto-Monticone from Italy.
