US Open qualification: Novak, Struff, Misolic & Co know their opponents

The US Open qualifier starts today, Tuesday, with six German, four Austrian and four Swiss representatives in the men's competition. Dennis Novak, Jan-Lennard Struff, Henri Laaksonen and Filip Misolic know their opening opponents on their way to the main draw of the last major event of the year.

Jan-Lennard Struff goes into the US Open qualifier number 23 and will open in New York City against Bradley Klahn from the USA. Possible opponents in the third and final qualifying round would be Constant Lestienne from France, number one in the competition. Dominik Koepfer meets Raul Brancaccio in round one, a possible opponent in the second round would be Mats Moraing, who has to deal with Juan Pablo Ficovich. In the final qualifying round, number five in the draw, Juan Pablo Varillas, could wait.

Daniel Masur got a difficult start at the start, the German has to deal with the Swede Elias Ymer in round one. Nuno Borges from Portugal could wait in the final qualifying round. Yannick Hanfmann, the semi-finalist from the ATP 250 event in Kitzbühel, has to deal with Sebastian Ofner in the only German-Austrian opening duel. Possible opponent in the last qualifying round would be Fernando Verdasco, who opens against Gianluca Mager. As the sixth and last German, Maximilian Marterer meets Daniel Dutra da Silva in round one.

Laaksonen and Stricker have good chances

Marterer could meet Swiss youngster Dominic Stricker in the final qualifying round. This opens against Borna Gojo of Croatia and is number 21 at Flushing Meadows. Just like compatriot Henri Laaksonen, number three in the qualifying tableau: The Swiss will meet Pedro Sousa from Portugal in round one, in the match for a place in the main draw it could be against Facundo Mena. Also at the start for Switzerland: Antoine Bellier, who meets Paul Jubb at the start, and Alexander Ritschard, who has to deal with Evan Furness.

Gerald Melzer, one of four Austrian representatives in the qualifying tableau, opens against Jozef Kovalik from Slovakia. The Austrian could face Russia's Roman Saffiulin in the final qualifying round. Filip Misolic, the sensational finalist from Kitzbühel, initially has to deal with Martin Damm in his second Grand Slam qualification, who is allowed to get involved thanks to a wildcard. Corentin Moutet, the number eleven of the competition, could wait in round two. Meanwhile, Dennis Novak is set. The Lower Austrian opens in New York City against Aleksandar Kovacevic, possible opponent in the final qualifying round is Nicolas Jarry from Chile.
