It was Joe Salisbury who used the first match point for the defending champions with a smash. Rajeev Ram, standing a few meters behind his partner, grabbed his head in disbelief. Because although Ram/Salisbury had traveled to New York City with the title win behind them, winning the title again was by no means a sure-fire success. Especially the semi-final against Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah could have gone the other way.

But Ram and Salisbury kept Wesley Koolhof and Neil Skupski 7: 5 and 7: 5 harmless. The Dutchman and his British partner are currently in third and fourth place in the double world rankings, with Salisbury leading the charts ahead of Ram . Who had tried his hand at Jack Sock or Horacio Zeballos in the summer.

The German-speaking participants had to say goodbye quite early: Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies lost in round two to Philipp Oswald and Robin Haase. The Austrian and his Dutch playmate lost the ensuing match against Nikola Mektc and Mate Pavic. Tim Pütz, the best-ranked German in the doubles world rankings, was eliminated with Michael Venus in the round of 16 against Cabal/Farah.
